Staff Backend Engineer - Mimir Query, Databases

This is a remote position. We are looking for candidates in the USA time zones.

What is Grafana Cloud?

Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. It allows our customers to leverage the best open source observability software – including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope – without the overhead of installing, maintaining and scaling their own observability stack.

As a company we are remote-first and global, we embrace people of different experiences and backgrounds to build diverse teams where every person brings a new perspective to the software.

Mimir Squad

The Mimir squad has 3 sub-squads, Ingest, Storage, and Query, which together maintain the Mimir OSS project, and additionally own and operate Grafana Cloud Metrics across 3 major cloud providers. Engineers on the team focus on optimizing the efficiency and resilience of processing, storing, and querying metrics at large volumes. These services operate at a large scale and performance is key to keeping the offering competitive and running smoothly.

A Mimir engineer has various work streams. They are likely engaged in a larger project with another engineer, and they are also incorporating some performance and reliability improvements discovered through operating the system in production. Engineer Senior Software Engineer at Hummingbird

Design and deliver AI-powered features for financial crime compliance software, collaborating across product and design teams to build scalable, production-ready systems.

Senior Remote Posted 1 day ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Hummingbird is a remote-first, fully distributed team united by the shared mission of helping fight financial crime. Since our launch in 2017, we’ve helped major financial institutions and tech-savvy trailblazers alike (e.g. Stripe, Affirm, Evolve Bank etc.) orchestrate their compliance programs through our thoughtfully designed, intuitive SaaS product. We believe finding and stopping financial crime is a problem rooted in code, language and design, so we built the product that the heroes doing this work deserve.

We are customer-obsessed, and we love building and shipping great products. We set a high bar, challenge our assumptions, seek diverse opinions, and support each other to do our best work.

We do our best to write inclusive, descriptive and accurate job descriptions, but we’re not always perfect. If you’re interested in the role, we’d love to hear from you even if you don’t feel like you meet everything we’re looking for. We’re always iterating and improving, and it’s possible that your experience is even more impactful than we could have imagined.

About the role

At Hummingbird, we’re building better software to fight financial crime—and our engineering team makes that mission possible. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Cortex Team, you’ll play a key role in driving AI at Hummingbird. You’ll design and deliver customer-facing AI features that make complex work more intuitive and efficient, and iterate on existing features, like our context-aware AI Assistant and Review Agent.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other engineers to bring ideas to life—from prototyping to production. You’ll balance thoughtful model and tool selection with sound engineering principles, ensuring our systems are scalable, secure, and auditable. The projects you’ll take on are often ambitious and open-ended, and you’ll have the trust and autonomy to drive them from concept to completion.

We’re looking for someone who’s curious, collaborative, and motivated by impact—someone who thrives in the messy middle of hard problems and helps bring clarity and direction to the team. If you’re excited to use AI and data to make the world’s financial systems safer and more transparent, we’d love to meet you.

What you’ll do:

  • Build AI features end-to-end. You’ll design, implement, and ship features that bring great user experiences to life —with a strong focus on measurement, observability, and real-world performance.
  • Scale for impact. You’ll architect and deliver systems that handle high data volumes and complex workflows with reliability and speed, ensuring our AI features are as resilient and efficient as they are powerful.
  • Enhance trust and transparency. You’ll improve grounding quality with permission-safe retrieval, citations, and evaluations that make AI outputs auditable and dependable.
  • Optimize for experience. You’ll drive latency and cost improvements where they matter most—creating fast, seamless interactions for our users.
  • Shape the product and strategy. You’ll collaborate closely with Product and Design from discovery through iteration, helping define what AI can do for our customers. Great ideas come from everywhere, and your voice will help shape where we go next.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience that matters. You’ve shipped 0-1 products to real users (ideally AI products!) and are excited to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
  • Safety first. You care deeply about quality, testing, and security—because trust and reliability are non-negotiable foundations of scalable systems.
  • Curiosity and creativity. You love learning new technologies, exploring unfamiliar domains, and turning complex ideas into elegant, understandable solutions.
  • Purpose-driven builder. You want to use your technical skills to create something meaningful—AI that helps make the world’s financial systems safer and more transparent.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals. You bring solid backend experience, data fluency, and operational maturity to every project.
  • Iterative mindset. You enjoy refining ideas, incorporating feedback, and improving through collaboration.
  • Product intuition and communication. You think beyond code, partnering effectively with Product and Design to build features that delight and empower users.
  • Bonus points for: Experience with OpenSearch or other vector databases, Snowflake, evaluation frameworks like Langfuse, or familiarity with fintech and compliance domains.

Technologies we use and teach:

  • AWS, Azure, PostgreSQL, Redis
  • Terraform, CircleCI, Nix, Docker
  • Ruby/Rails, Python
  • OpenAI
  • React, JavaScript, TypeScript, GraphQL, d3

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please don’t hesitate to contact us to request accommodation.

Engineer Senior Data Engineer at Nansen

Design, build, and scale high-performance data pipelines and infrastructure handling terabytes of blockchain data daily using ClickHouse, Postgres, Python, and dbt.

Senior Remote Posted 1 day ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Talent Wanted. For hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success.

Fridtjof Nansen crossed the Arctic, going places no human had ever been. Together with our users, we’re doing the same onchain: charting entirely new territory.

Nansen is the onchain analytics platform traders and funds use to see what’s actually happening on-chain. We label and track 500M+ blockchain addresses, the largest such dataset in the industry.

Our mission: Surface the signal and create winners.

This seat also comes with a defined runway: you’ll start as an IC, with a clear path to Engineering Manager within 12–18 months for the right person.

What you’ll do at Nansen

You’ll work with data engineers and ML engineers to build the data infrastructure that powers Nansen’s customer-facing analytics product.

  • Design, build, and scale data pipelines and infrastructure in ClickHouse, Postgres, Python, and dbt
  • Run the pipelines behind 500M+ labeled addresses, moving terabytes of streaming and batch data every day
  • Partner with crypto researchers, software engineers, and product to shape how data gets modeled, surfaced, and productized
  • Own data quality, reliability, and observability end-to-end. At most analytics companies a wrong number is a support ticket. Here, it’s a position someone took.
  • Mentor other data engineers and raise the technical bar across the team
  • Use AI tools and agents to move faster and cut the busywork out of your day

What we’re looking for

  • You’ve shipped and scaled high-performance data systems in production
  • Deep expertise in SQL and Python, with real hands-on experience in dbt, ClickHouse, and Postgres
  • Strong grasp of streaming data architectures, comfortable operating at genuine scale
  • You work the full data stack: ingestion, transformation, storage, modeling, serving
  • You already build with tools like Cursor, Claude Code, and MCPs
  • You write clearly. This team is remote and async, so most decisions get made in writing
  • Bonus: experience leading or managing projects in a smaller team, fluency in onchain data structures, Web3 technologies, and crypto markets

What we offer our crew

  • Competitive salary. Meaningful equity. Real ownership in what you build
  • Fully remote with support for in-person co-location
  • Annual company retreat and team off-sites in Singapore, Bangkok, or Oslo, with flights and accommodation covered
  • Unlimited AI tokens
  • Your own OpenClaw for work
  • Nansen Pro account: full access to the most detailed onchain data in the market
  • Speed, ownership, curiosity, courage, transparency, simplicity
  • A front-row seat (and a hand in building) the next chapter of finance

Work visa sponsorship is not provided for this role.

Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success.

Splice embraces a culture of remote work. You’ll see your colleagues showing up from across the US and the UK. In order to keep us working well as a team, we have regular communication, including Town Halls, departmental all-hands and get-togethers.

When you join Splice, you join a network of colleagues, peers, and collaborators. Are you ready?

JOB TITLE: Data Engineer II LOCATION: REMOTE- US

THE ROLE:

We’re looking for a Data Engineer II to join Splice’s Data Engineering team and help scale the platform that powers creator payouts, revenue reporting, and product analytics across Splice’s product lines.

Data Engineering builds and maintains the reliable foundation that makes trusted data possible, enabling teams across Splice to work from a governed, consistent source of truth. We are accountable for the warehouse and pipeline foundation; ingestion, transformations, and the standards and quality guardrails that keep data consistent, timely, and usable. This is a mid-level, high-ownership role: engineers here carry features from technical design through delivery, monitoring, and documentation, and participate in our on-call rotation.

The work requires hands-on data engineering experience. Our stack; BigQuery, SQLMesh, Python, Dagster- is distinct from Splice’s web engineering stack, and effective contribution requires domain expertise in data pipeline systems, not general software engineering background.

TEAM INFORMATION:

You’ll be joining Splice’s Data Engineering team, a small, embedded platform team responsible for the pipelines, transformations, and warehouse infrastructure the rest of the company depends on. Our systems support finance-critical processes (contributor payouts, GAAP revenue reporting), product analytics, and data reliability for customer-facing features like recommendations. We operate with a shared on-call rotation and a strong bias toward observable, well-documented, durable systems.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Pipeline Development & Transformation

  • Build and maintain data models in SQLMesh, including incremental strategies, testing, and documentation
  • Continuously improve and evolve our orchestration and transformation infrastructure as the platform scales
  • Modernize legacy pipeline jobs in Python and SQLMesh, reducing technical debt over time

Reliability & Observability

  • Participate in on-call rotation; triage and resolve incidents including ETL failures, data unavailability, and core metric breakage
  • Build introspectable software: define alert thresholds, emit metrics and logs, produce dashboards, and establish closed-loop escalation paths
  • Improve observability across the platform so failures are caught early and resolved quickly

Finance & Revenue Pipelines

  • Extend and maintain pipelines powering creator payouts and GAAP-compliant revenue reporting across Splice’s product lines
  • Build pipeline support for new revenue streams as Splice launches them

Platform Quality & Optimization

  • Improve query performance and reduce compute costs in BigQuery
  • Contribute to ingestion platform work and product analytics infrastructure
  • Uphold our definition of done: validation complete, documentation updated, monitoring in place before closing a ticket

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3+ years of hands-on data engineering experience in a production environment
  • Proficiency in SQL — window functions, CTEs, query optimization, execution plan analysis
  • Proficiency in Python for pipeline logic, data transformation, and testing (maintainable code, not just scripts)
  • Experience with a modern transformation framework — SQLMesh, dbt, or equivalent — including incremental models, testing, and documentation
  • Production experience with a cloud data warehouse (we use BigQuery); understands partitioning, clustering, and cost management
  • Experience with at least one workflow orchestrator (Dagster, Airflow, Prefect, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated ability to build observable, reliable data systems — alerting, dashboards, and data quality checks
  • Comfortable owning small-to-medium features from technical design through delivery with limited guidance

SPLICE BENEFITS:

  • Compensation & Equity: Competitive pay with annual reviews and equity opportunities.
  • Time Off: Unlimited PTO to recharge and thrive.
  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents.
  • Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with immediate vesting and company match.
  • Parental Support: 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave for non-birthing parents, and 18-20 weeks for birthing parents.
  • Flexible Work Options: Work remotely or connect at our office hubs and creative spaces worldwide.
  • Professional Growth: Annual learning budget, leadership programs, and team ambassador opportunities.
  • Community & Connection: Inclusive events, team meet-ups, and vibrant Employee Resource Groups.

The national pay range for this role is $94,952 - $118,690. Individual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.

Splice is an Equal Opportunity Employer Splice provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
